Minister of Energy Hon. Joseph Adda

Most developing countries especially those in sub Saharan Africa face major challenges to the development of their economies. One of the significant elements which constrain development is the availability of the requisite infrastructure especially energy to support economic growth. While the countries in the sub region are endowed with natural resources such as minerals, the energy infrastructure services required to facilitate the exploitation of these resources are absent or at best under developed. The economic development of our peoples therefore has been limited.

As a means of harmonizing the development and also the optimization of the operation of the energy resources in the West African sub region, ECOWAS has developed the West African Power Pool system. Though in its early stages, the WAPP clearly promises to be the future to unlocking the development of the energy
infrastructure in the sub region.

The WAMPEX / WAMPOC event with its theme of “Development through Mining and Power, A Shared Responsibility” is most opportune at this time and will offer the members of WAPP the opportunity to explore the latest technologies regarding power generation, transmission and distribution as well as innovative financing mechanisms for them.

The Ministry of Energy is proud to be associated with this relevant event and looks forward to its successful outcome.

Esther Obeng Dappah Minister for Lands, Forestry and Mines

The Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Mines believes that WAMPOC
has introduced the international investment community to mining interests through out the West African Sub-Region, thus providing the appropriate platform for mining business development and networking.
The Ministry recognizes the role that WAMPOC is playing to make Ghana a preferred destination for mining investment, and lends it’s support to the organisers.

Joyce R. Aryee Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Chamber of Mines
For the past 14 years WAMPEX and WAMPOC have been synonomous with and reflective of the
healthy growth of West Africa's Mining endeavours.
The combined exhibition and conference have played a critical role in bringing together the stakeholders and role players from throughout the region in a combined effort to develop it's resources, infrastructure and people.
The Chamber has always and continues to, urge those companies that earn a livelihood from the West Africa mining industry to support our combined efforts by actively participating in June 2008.

I am truly delighted to associate myself with WAMPEX / WAMPOC

- a prime mover in the discussions and promotion of the twin agents of our national development – namely, mining and power

John Owusu, General Manager Corporate & Community Relations
AngloGold Ashanti

I have attended several conferences on exploration and mining in South Africa and Europe but my favourite event is WAMPEX / WAMPOC, the biennial West African exhibition and Conference on Mining and Energy.

As a Senior Manager responsible for Corporate Affairs and Community Relations of AngloGold Ashanti, I have participated in the conference since it’s inception in 1994 and this has helped me to build a network of contacts and publics.

We have also used WAMPEX / WAMPOC as a vehicle to educate our stakeholders and the public in general on our core values. WAMPEX / WAMPOC is certainly an event that I will never miss.
