The tastes and demands of consumers are changing with today’s buyers looking for a combination of value for money, health and nutrition, convenience and affordability. Lifestyles in Africa are also changing. A move away from traditional to western foods, more working couples, and emphasis on “quality time” have led to an explosive demand for convenience foods and home meal replacements. Currently more than 47% of South Africa’s food expenditure is accounted for by packaged products and US$ 2.1 billion of the country’s US$3.7 billion packaging bill is spent on food and beverage packaging.
